ISEE, SSAT, HSPT, ACT & MTEL Prep
Standardized tests are intimidating; the test-taking environment is unfriendly and the test questions are designed to trick you. With dedicated practice and regular coaching, everyone can learn strategies to beat the tests and improve their percentiles and/or stanines. I will work with you to improve your verbal scores and gain confidence in the test-taking environment so that you can achieve your target scores on test day. Because no two test-takers are the same, I will provide you with a custom test preparation program that reflects your goals, neutralizes your weaknesses, and amplifies your strengths. We will achieve this through a balance of retrieval practice, distributed practice, and interleaving, along with exercises to heighten your tenacity, resilience, and composure. I tutor the whole student, body and mind; stress reduction will be a component of every test preparation program. While I use Piqosity and Khan Academy as the digital components of my test preparation programs, the majority of my materials and methods are curated especially for you, whether that means providing practice test questions and essay prompts, assigning supplementary reading, building vocabulary lists, or replicating test day distractions so that you can learn to overcome them. All of my test preparation programs will require you to complete homework between sessions.
ISEE, SSAT & HSPT Prep
The ISEE and the SSAT are the admissions tests of choice for most American private schools, while the HSPT is the admissions test of choice for most Catholic schools. I coach middle school students for all three tests to help you get your highest score on test day, making the admissions process easier and less stressful for you, as well as ensuring that you are placed into competitive classes like Honors and Pre-AP.

ACT Prep
If you haven't considered taking the ACT before, click here for eight reasons why you should. Please be aware that I only coach students for the ACT English Test, ACT Reading Test, and ACT Writing Test (which is an optional section that everyone benefits from taking, especially if you have received a fee waiver). The ACT English Test combines with the ACT Reading Test to produce the English Language Arts subscore. While I do offer test preparation programs for each test, enabling you to target your weakest section, most students see the highest increase in their scores by practicing these tests jointly (which is a study strategy known as interleaving). Official ACT products constitute the backbone of my curriculum.
I am an ACT Certified Educator, which means that I am well-versed in the tutoring methods endorsed by ACT and I am completely up-to-date with the latest ACT protocols. As a result of my training, I am qualified to assist you with registering for the ACT, applying for accommodations, and applying for fee waivers. I am also qualified to interpret your score reports and analyze your mastery of the ACT College and Career Readiness Standards. Finally, I am qualified to recommend additional official ACT products and services to you (both free and paid).

What about SAT Prep?
Unfortunately, because I proctor the SAT as part of the SAT School Day initiative, I cannot provide any SAT tutoring services. If you are hoping to improve your scores on the SAT Reading Test and SAT Writing & Language Test, you may be interested in my General ELA Tutoring instead (please request a focus on test-taking strategies, reading strategies, grammar review, and vocabulary study).
MTEL Prep
There are very few self-study materials available for the MTELs. Preparation courses tend to be expensive and they are designed for group instruction, rather than productive one-on-one coaching. I coach students for the Communication and Literacy Skills Test, English Test, and English as a Second Language Test. I successfully passed my own Communication and Literacy Skills Test as a high school senior and my English Test during my second semester as a college freshman, having only taken one English course by that time. While I have not taken the English as a Second Language Test, I have passed the now-retired English Language Learners Test, and I have completed extensive coursework and professional development in TESOL (I possess a 120-hr TESOL certification).
